Coaching at Distraction Age

· Wellbeing

As I follow up emails with clients and potential clients, I used to think a decade ago that work can distract them from communicatiing with me. Today, I started to notice a different dynamics at paly. While middle aged adults spend a total of two and half hours using social media during thier day; including watching interesting videos and responding to a catchy comment from a friend or a coworker, thier social media engagment experiance is scattered between work tasks as much as breaks. This reality is relfected on a side that make them less focused and less effecient in communicating with outsiders, like me.

So, instead of feeling annoyed by repeated follow up calls like before, I started to get positve signes of doing so. "Keep calling me, please"; " Thank you for calling me agian, I almost forgot"; " Unless you keep reminding me, your email will get lost with hundreds of other emails". Honostly, I was surprised to hear such comments in the begining, however, my boldness strated to grow up in this direction, especially with Z generation who spends an additional hour in social media compared to middle age ones on daily bases. Even alphe generation memebers who lives with me as offspring welcomes my repeated inturrptions sometimes to brining me a cup of coffee that I asked for 50 minutes ago. I also noticed that more authenrtice forms like voice notes is way appreciated than emails and written posts, especially with mystry it holds comapared to posts that can be read directly.

From coaching prospective, I was always proud of that moment in sessions I had with my clients where clarity of goals triumph over distractions. This moment is a result of deducting complications that a client habitully creats around what he or she is ding regularly and coach can help in sort them out. For example, a client who wants to get more time to exercise may discover that a daily time is spent in responding to posts in groups she joined three years ago. Few exploration may lead to end of relevence of these groups to current situation and propose more that time needed to exercise by leaving them permenantly.

Advantage of coach is position that he or she has for a client which makes it easier to detect sources of distrations and negotiate with client new options of simplifying daily schedule and reach more wellbeing.
